Dragon Speak

My brother the doctor recommended that I purchased [purchase] dictation software a long time ago, as if dictating the thesis or dissertation would somehow make it easier.  I scoffed.  And then I came upon another discussion of dictation software on the site of Mena Spencer.com [metaspencer.com], and rethought my aversion some more. Today at the bookstore, I caved. This entry is being gay stated [dictated (!)], and if I weren't going to be busy dictating my thesis, I would be eating a lot of crow.

Yes, there are still several errors that persists [persist] and while I've train [trained] the software, sometimes it makes them [some] pretty amusing misstatements that, he does [because] they are correctly spelled, will require far greater attention to proofreading than I had previously employed.  However, I think this is going to save me so much time that proofreading will be a pleasure, if not cause for actual O'Leary team [hilarity]. I hope.

Yep, as far as dictation software goes, Dragon is pretty good. I bet you will capture some wonderful thoughts just saying them out loud! I love the idea of it. -- Gretchen

It's interesting, I stopped using Dragon after a very short time. Part of it was probably memory conflicts (Word kept crashing, and I don't know if it was because Dragon + Endnote or something else), and part of it was because I felt kind of dumb talking to the walls. What I really need is someone to talk things through with, and then capture those thoughts, because they're the most interesting ones...

But hey, I finished the thesis, so this will all be for the dissertation. Hooray!
