Smelt, Ph.D.

You won't learn how to smelt gold here, but thanks for stopping by.

About Me

User: schoolsmelt
The smelting process (see above) is designed to remove impurities and capture the gold - it bears a striking similarity to writing a dissertation. Smelting's hotter, though.

It's delurker day!

Please say hello. I'll post something fun/interesting for as many days in a row as people comment.

I've discovered a new stopgap for when I want a break, but also want to be doing something useful: ReCaptcha, through which I can help digitize texts by using my human brain to decipher words that have been lined-through, smeared, or otherwise made illegible to an OCR reader. Addictive in a similar way as Google's image tagging, but far more satisfying.

hey there! this morning there is an article in the times that you might like. or not. "Exploring Ways to Shorten the Ascent to a Ph.D." Here is the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/03/education/03education.html?em&ex=1191643200&en=2438decafe04c4d8&ei=5087%0A#

um, that might not work - but anyhow, you can search for the article using the title. Gives some stats on how difficult it is to write the diss - - so here's to you!! Hip Hip hurrah!
