Smelt, Ph.D.

You won't learn how to smelt gold here, but thanks for stopping by.

About Me

User: schoolsmelt
The smelting process (see above) is designed to remove impurities and capture the gold - it bears a striking similarity to writing a dissertation. Smelting's hotter, though.

pause

I got a phone call on the evening of my last post that has altered my progress somewhat. I'm currently back home helping out with a family emergency (things are on the upswing, thankfully), and will be here for another couple of weeks. Tonight was the first night I've done any appreciable work on the diss, which only showed how easy it is to get out of practice. Fortunately, I should have at least an hour a day and a clean workspace in which to write and think in the coming week.

The fact that it's almost twice as warm here is an unexpected bonus - I could almost be on a writing retreat, if only I could shut off my brain about the real reason I'm here. I'm just grateful to only have to deal with this level of mental noise - things could be far worse than they are, and I am getting to spend some pretty awesome quality time with part of my family. No matter what happens, the diss will still be there when I get back.
